Te Whare Tiaki Wāhine Refuge is a non-profit organisation in Porirua which in 1987 was the Māori caucus of Whare Manaaki Porirua General Refuge. Te Whare Tiaki Wāhine Refuge was evolved in 1997 with the fundamental approach of 'by Māori for Māori' to provide services for Māori wāhine and their tamariki affected by family violence. We provide a variety of options to support and encourage wāhine to understand, recognise and eliminate beliefs and attitudes inherent in patriarchal structures which maintain and perpetuate violence against wāhine and their tamariki.
